More than a hundred years ago a hamburger was considered to be a meat croquette put between two slices of bread. Yes, you read correctly not between buns for hamburgers but between slices of bread. It was done because of convenience and the possibility to eat with hands. It is believed that such a dish was brought to America by immigrants from Hamburg (Germany). Hamburgers became especially popular during fairs due to a convenient way to eat. Later this dish was improved: a croquette was put into special buns for hamburgers, additional ingredients were included. Due to a higher price of buns and additional ingredients cost price also increased. Gradually a simple snack became widely known and liked over the whole world; more and more bistros were founded where a hamburger was the main dish.
